Christmas is over and 2017 is coming to a close in 6 days. I want to take a moment to look back on the year and share my top 10 from 2017.
10. Getting extra time at home
This year threw some curve balls my way, but it allowed me to spend some much needed time at home to re-evaluate things, explore new ventures, and reconnect with myself. There is always a silver lining.
9. Being a bigger part in my Niece’s and Nephews lives.
The extra time I got at home this year allowed be time to travel to see my sister and her kids in Virginia more, as well as spend more time with my niece and nephew who are more local to me. I adore getting to know them and a part of their lives more. The memories I am building with them are something they will carry with them always.
8. Taking multiple trips to Newport, RI. (my happy place)
My Husband and I got married in Newport this year and we were lucky enough to spend a lot of time there as we planned. I LOVE Newport and would move there in a heartbeat. I miss the planning and looking forward to weekend trips up there!
7. Planning and being a part of some really spectacular photo shoots.
2017 was a really strong year for my creative growth. I started the year off with some really great opportunities at work and pulled together some really incredible editorials that I am very proud of. Every year I find that I am challenged and grow a little more and I am thankful that I get these experiences. I love what I do and sometimes have to stop and take it all in amongst the craziness because I do not have a normal job.
6. Working with incredibly talented people who have become family to me.
I was fortunate to work very closely with not only extremely talented people, but they have become my closest friends. It becomes difficult as you get older to make friends, especially in work environments as competitive as mine, but I have collaborated with some incredible people. Although I do not get to see them everyday, I know they will always be a part of my life.
5. Having the time to explore new avenues and stretch my creative side.
As mentioned earlier, I was given some extra time this year to re-think what I want in my life. This time forced me to open up my mind and stretch my creative muscles. Sometimes we get stuck in a rut, stuck in a comfortable job because its convenient. There are even times where we become complacent with our work and are not in the right environment to be challenged.
This is the 2nd time in my life where I was literally forced out of my comfort zone. I am grateful for it as it leads me to bigger and greater things. The uncomfortable situations and the will to re-create makes me a stronger individual in my field. If you had asked me 3 years ago if I was ready to take on what I am doing now, I would have shied away from it. However, here I am 3 years stronger ready to take control of my own creativity and do what truly makes ME happy.
4. My beautiful bridal shower
My mom and sister threw me a gorgeous shower at my family’s home this summer and it was everything I ever dreamed of!
3. Spending more time with my Sister
My sister and I never lived together growing up, she was with our dad and I with our mom, so besides weekends and holidays together we were never very close. As we got older we became much closer and I always look forward to seeing her. Over the past 5 years we have really come together with a strong bond as we realize we are the only ones who could fully understand each other in our upbringing and shared experiences. Then, a year and a half ago our father tragically passed away and the need to be around each other became even stronger. We always knew that the common thread of sharing in our dad’s life struggles bonded us, but this locked it.
I have never been one to need people around me all the time, I am a very private person, a true introvert. I had always pushed people away and asked to be left alone because I like to process by myself. After all, I am a Taurus lol. But, for some strange reason I have had this constant need to be with my sister this year. I have gotten more time with her than I have in the past, it’s been great!
2. Seeing family come together that has been apart for too long.
My whole family lives in Texas, we do not see each other as often as we would all like. My wedding in September got all of us together again; it was incredible. My aunts, uncles, and cousins from both my mom’s and dad’s side of the family flew up to Newport to support Keith and I. It made me feel so loved! Family has become very important to me the past few years; I am making a yearly family get together mandatory – wedding or not!
1. MY WEDDING!
Marrying my best friend and becoming a wife tops the list hands down. It was such an incredible experience and life changing event that I will never forget!
