You stopped complaining
Could you go an hour? A day? A week?
This day in age it seems impossible, right? Every year the owners at The Bar Method studio I teach at, set up a challenge for the staff,
21 days without complaining. The rules are simples, I gave it a shot and here’s how it went!
– Go 21 consecutive days without complaining.
– Every time you complain you start back over at day 1.
Example: You go 3 consecutive days without complaining. but your accidentally complain about how your husband forgot to do something. Oops you start back over at day 1 and have to complete the 21 days over again.
I totally got this, how hard can it be to think before you speak? BUT do my thoughts count? I have become very good at keeping my opinions to myself, but that does not mean it is healthy to think in the way I do. This is a big struggle, I can control what comes out of my mouth, but the thoughts that pop into my head a totally different story!
This is harder than I thought. I have had to restart to Day 1 several times, sometimes you don’t even realize that what you are talking about is actually a complaint. To make it a little more fun I was given a bracelet to wear so that every time I complained I have to physically change the bracelet from one wrist to the other. The physical act of recognizing my complaint makes it a little easier.
Ok, so I am 100% succeeding, but it is making me more conscious of my thoughts and whether or not my “complaints” are really worthy or just a waste of hot air. I am going to keep trying at this one! I find that when I exude positive energy that it comes back to me. People are more attracted to you when you are not constantly complaining or bashing others, know when to keep things to yourself and let go. Life will throw a lot at us in the short amount of time we have, but everyone has struggles and triumphs, everyone is battling something. We should all vow to put more positivity into the world to support one another instead of tearing each other down. This may be a small change, but it’s one you can control.
Try this one out for yourself this month. November is all about being thankful for what we have, try to take a second and appreciate it instead of dwell on the negative. I would love to hear your personal journey and reflections on this, keep me posted!!
